Life is movement! All your actions, reactions, thoughts, feelings and choices whether internal or external are movements. Each movement has an energy and an impact on you personally and those around you, who are also making their own movements. So in essence we are all moving through life together.

Rather than being aware of our constant flow through life as humans we tend to compartmentalise and separate our actions, work, rest, TV, social media, exercise, friends and family time.

Surveys examining human behaviour show us that over a life time of 80 years we will on average spend around 26 years sleeping, 7 years trying to sleep, 13 years working, 11 years screen time, TV, social media etc, 4 years 6 months eating, 3 yrs 1 month holidays, 1 yr 6 months exercising, 1 yr 3 months socialising.

How much of our time is spent consciously aware and present in our bodies and most importantly feeling joyful and enthusiastic about or movements?

As a coach I understand movement as a medicine a powerful tool that brings the mind, body and spirit into health and alignment with purpose and potential.

So I ask you to perceive your life in its totality as a movement, and reflect on what brings you joy and a sense of purpose in your daily life remembering that you will spend potentially a quarter of your life working, watching TV , media and engaging in social media. That isn’t bad but is it bringing you joy?

Bringing gentle conscious exercise into your daily pattern of movement help’s to keep you healthy, aware, and present.

Regularly rolling the shoulders throughout the day will benefit not only the build-up of tension in the neck, shoulders and spine but also gently nudge you into being present in your body and connected to your spirit.

Shoulder roles work internally on the thyroid glands and the lymphatics in the shoulders and neck so in combination with drinking regular water can keep your system fresh and avoid sludgy feelings.

As soon as you begin to roll the shoulders the spine will gently extend and rise to support the movement, opening up and expanding the chest, lungs, heart and throat. You can say hello to all these organs they will appreciate the connection.

Shoulder rolls will gently nudge you into the present moment and contribute greatly to your personal care.

To extend the movement after rolling the shoulders outwards around 6 times place your hands on your chest, the lungs are connected to feelings of joy (and also in the negative sorrow). Breathe deeply and see white light filling the lungs, feel the heat from your hands and envision those things or a particular thing that brings you joy.

Its magic.
